March, 2011:

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

I’m of Irish heritage, so I really love St. Patrick’s Day.  I have on my shamrock shirt.  I have corn beef in the crock pot and Guinness in my fridge.  I hope everyone has a safe and happy St. Patrick’s Day.

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite Irish blessings:

Wishing you a rainbow

For sunlight after showers–

Miles and miles of Irish smiles

For golden happy hours–

Shamrocks at your doorway

For luck and laughter too,

And a host of friends that never ends

Each day your whole life through!

Finding “Me” time.

I know I’m not alone when I say that finding time for myself is a challenge. I work full time. I go to school full time. I’m a mom, and I’m a girlfriend to my live-in boyfriend. I’m a step-mom every other weekend to The Man’s daughter. With all of that going on, it is always difficult to find time just to myself. However, because I have all of that going on, it is imperative that I find some time each day to focus on me or eventually I’d be no good to anyone.

Sometimes that means stealing 15 minutes to myself to read — even if I have to lock myself in the bathroom to do it. Some days it’s fitting that “me” time in on the drive home by putting on my favorite music, cranking it up loud and singing at the top of my lungs. It’s a little easier on weekends, simply because I don’t have work taking up time. I can usually steal an hour our so and go shopping by myself. Last Sunday I went to Ikea all by myself. It was great, although, the credit card probably didn’t think so!

We have annual passes to Disney, so usually every other weekend we take the kids to one of the parks for a good part of the day. It’s great family time and tires the kids out nicely so that I can get a few minutes to myself when we get home. Soon, The Man and I are planning an adult Disney outing. That will be fun too. We also have a non-kid vacation planned for the end of the month. We love our kids dearly, but taking time to ourselves is so important for our relationship. Taking time to myself is also important to our relationship. That old cliche that if mom isn’t happy, no one is happy is true.

I don’t need hours to recharge every day. Sometimes 10 or 15 minutes is all I need, and then I’m in a much better mood and that benefits everyone!
